The Leather City: An artistic commitment
The Red Thread: light on the Cité du Cuir
The Cité du Cuir has a contemporary work in the context of 1% artistic. Rather than buying an existing work, the Communauté de communes Porte Océane du Limousin launched a call for projects, attracting 60 artists. The winner: Fabian Böhrens, graduate of the ENSA Limoges, known for his explorations around the light.
His work, The Red Thread, installs on the chimney and facades of the Cité du Cuir. Composed of neon tubes blown by hand by a local company, it evokes the industrial memory of the site and craftsmanship, while embodying the new identity of the place. Three red light circles sanctify at the top of the chimney, a strong symbol of past activity.
Thoughtful as a graphic and poetic signal, the installation is part of the urban landscape and accompanies the revival of the neighborhood. It reflects the commitment of the Cité du Cuir to value contemporary creation, crafts and transmission.
