Cité du cuir: An artistic commitment
Le Fil Rouge: spotlight on the Cité du cuir
The Cité du cuir has acquired a contemporary work of art as part of the 1% artistic program. Rather than purchasing an existing work, the Porte Océane du Limousin community of municipalities launched a call for projects, attracting 60 artists. The winner was Fabian Böhrens, a graduate of ENSA Limoges, known for his explorations of light.
His work, Le Fil Rouge, is installed on the chimney and facades of the Cité du Cuir. Composed of neon tubes hand-blown by a local company, it evokes the industrial memory of the site and its craftsmanship, while embodying the new identity of the place. Three red circles of light come to life at the top of the chimney, a powerful symbol of the site's past activity.
Designed as a graphic and poetic signal, the installation blends into the urban landscape and accompanies the neighborhood's renaissance. It reflects the Cité du cuir's commitment to promoting contemporary creation, craftsmanship, and knowledge transfer.
