Opening hours
The Cité du Cuir is open to the public for self-guided tours:
High season:from May 1 to October 31, Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Low season:from November 1 to April 30, Wednesday to Friday from 10 am to 5.30pm Saturdays and Sundays from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The Cité du Cuir is located: 20 Chemin-Notre-Dame au Goth, 87200 Saint Junien.

Is it accessible to people with reduced mobility?
Yes, the Cité du Cuir meets current accessibility standards.
Two parking spaces for people with reduced mobility are reserved to the site entrance.
An elevator and a lift allow people with reduced mobility to access the entire site, including outdoor walking areas.
Chairs are available throughout the museum. A wheelchair is available at the museum reception on request.
Is the site accessible with a stroller?
Yes, a lift and an elevator allow strollers to access the entire museum.
Can I visit the Cité with children?
Yes, the Cité du Cuir museum tour is suitable for children.
Game booklets are available at the reception desk and distributed free of charge to young visitors to use them during their visit.
The audio guide provided to visitors has a dedicated track for children. Its content has been specially reworded to suit young children.
When is it closed? Is the Cité du cuir open on public holidays?
The Cité du Cuir is closed to the general public on Mondays during high season and on Mondays and Tuesdays during low season.
It is open on public holidays except January 1, May 1, November 11, and December 25.
Annual closure: January 1 to 31.
Do we have to pay for the audio guide?
No, the audio guide is included in the admission price for the museum tour.
Tickets and pricing
How much is admission?
The prices for a ticket for a SELF-GUIDED TOUR are:
- 9€ for adults 18 and over.
- 6€ for high school students, college students, people with disabilities, recipients of minimum social benefits, job seekers, and anyone who has booked a creative activity and an admission ticket at the same time: (Proof of eligibility required).
- Free for children under 6.
- 20€ for a family pass. The family pass applies to a group of up to 5 people, including a maximum of two adults. For more than 5 people, the price will be increased by €3 per additional child.
Can I buy tickets online?
Yes, you can buy tickets on the Cité du Cuir website. You can also buy tickets for guided tours and creative activities.
Can I leave La Cité du cuir and come back with my ticket, or is every exit final?
No, every exit from the museum is final.
Do I need to buy a ticket in advance to visit the permanent exhibition?
Tickets can be purchased online in advance or on site at the Cité du Cuir reception desk.
However, it is recommended that you purchase tickets for guided tours and creative activities in advance as places are limited.
Are tickets transferables ?
Yes admission tickets are transferables.. Only annual passes are not transferables.
What kind of payments are accepted ?
On site, at the Cité du Cuir reception desk, you can pay by: credit card (except American Express), check, cash, european holiday vouchers.
How can I get a reduced rate?
Certain groups are eligible for a reduced rate upon presentation of proof of eligibility. This rate applies to children over 6 and under 18, high school students, college students, people with disabilities, recipients of minimum social benefits, job seekers, and anyone who has booked a creative activity and an admission ticket at the same time.
Is there a group rate and how can I make a reservation for a group?
Yes, there is a special rate for a 10 person group or more. These rates are only available on reservation.. For information and reservations, please send an email to: reservation@citeducuir.fr
Are there free admissions for certain visitors?
Yes, some people are entitled to free admission: Children under 6 years of age, guide for people with disabilities (limited to one guide per disabled person), and Tour leader.
I bought a ticket for a specific date and time. Can I change it?
Yes, you can change the date of time online via the account used to purchase the ticket, or at the Cité du Cuir reception desk.
Guided Tours and Workshops
Does the Cité du cuir offer guided tours?
Yes, the Cité du Cuir offers guided tours and creative workshops based on availability during opening hours. It is possible to organize a guided tour and/or creative workshop for groups of 10 or more person, by reservation only.
Are there workshops for children and families?
Yes, the Cité du Cuir offers creative workshops to visitors of all ages. Some activities are suitable for children aged 3 and above. The criteria for participating in activities (minimum age of participants, whether children must be accompanied by an adult, etc.) are specified in the description of each workshop.
Do I need to book workshops and guided tours in advance?
We recommend booking creative workshops and guided tours in advance as the number of participants is limited.
Is there a baby area where I can breastfeed or change my child?
Changing tables are available in the women's and men's restrooms located at the entrance to the Cité du cuir and throughout the museum. There is no dedicated breastfeeding area in the building, but breastfeeding is permitted.
Visitor Services
Does the Cité du Cuir have a restaurant area?
No, the Cité du cuir does not have a restaurant area. However, there is a rest area with snack, hot drink, and cold drink vending machines, which is accessible from the main reception area.
Is there a gift shop on site?
Yes, a large shop selling souvenirs and handcrafted items is accessible to everyone directly from the main entrance.
Does the museum offer spaces for groups or private events?

Exhibitions and Collections
What are the permanent exhibitions at the Cité du cuir?
The Cité du cuir has a permanent exhibition.
It is divided into three main sections:
The first section traces the transformation of raw hides into leather through the tanning process.
The second section presents the work and history of glove-making in Saint-Junien and France.
Finally, the last section highlights leather-related expertise through five themed exhibition areas: contemporary creations, heritage and evolution, technical expertise and know-how, innovation and recycling.

Useful information
Is there a locker room or luggage storage?
The Cité du Cuir has lockers that visitors can use. They are large enough to hold backpacks or motorcycle helmets, but not large suitcases.
Are pets allowed in the museum?
Pets are not allowed on the premises, even if they are on a leash or carried in your arms, with the exception of guide dogs and service dogs.
Can I take photos during my visit?
Yes, photographs without flash are permitted, unless otherwise stated, for non-commercial use only. Photographs taken for commercial or advertising purposes are subject to prior authorization and payment of fees. A written request must be submitted to the Cité du cuir. The use of tripods, selfie sticks, or other professional equipment is subject to authorization.
Can we have a picnic at the Cité du cuir?
Yes, you can have a picnic outside the Cité du Cuir. There is a shelter with picnic tables on the banks of the Vienne River.
Is smoking permitted within the Cité du cuir ?
No, smoking and vaping are prohibited within the Cité du cuir.
Is there a parking lot reserved for visitors?
A public parking lot with 62 spaces is available near the Cité du cuir. This parking lot is recommended for visitors.
Can we come by bus?
Individual visitors can come to Saint-Junien by bus, but there is no bus stop directly in front of the Cité du cuir.
For groups, there is a drop-off point for buses in front of the main entrance to the Cité du cuir. Once passengers have been dropped off, the bus must park in one of the designated parking lots. The closest one is at Place du Champ de Foire.
